It’s as if there’s an invading force coming, or a Category 5 hurricane on its way. Unprecedented in our lifetimes.

I’m down in socal, and was just informed my research lab will be needed for testing vertical transmission (mom to baby), clinical certifications be damned. I’ll be amazed if I am still at work by Friday

I had planned on doing some of the best bay area drives now that I have only work going on, but now that’s out the window.
The goal is to not end up like Italy, since so far there’s no indication that the US (and many other countries) aren’t heading straight there. I kinda wish they had just done this from the very beginning. Would have saved lots of stress from uncertainty.

The president saw to it that what you propose would not happen and those of his ilk mocked those of us who did our best.

fwiw it sounds like state governors- at least some of them- are doing what the feds won’t.

I have a strong suspicion this will also be reality for the Seattle metro area by the end of the week.

How is that supposed to logistically happen?

It’s now spread to southern Alberta as well:

People here still aren’t treating it seriously.

I am physically located in the hospital, but in a separate wing. We have an MD/phd in our department who works 50/50 research and clinic (NICU) , I guess he’s going to be running the PCRs. I sure as hell won’t be

The purpose is to limit unknown carriers as much as possible. External limitations only do so much. They want to get as many people as possible to police themselves.

Just saw this and thought of you and other Bay Oppos. Best of luck to you, this is surely a bellwether for what’s coming elsewhere . I work for a small auto shop farther south, and saw that they made specific exceptions for repair shops and other services. Business is falling off a cliff and this is going to hurt monstrously , but it’s nice to be considered “essential”. For now. I’d feel a lot better if there was some kind of mortgage or health insurance premium/deductible relief on the horizon because we’d all much rather stay home. Since t hat’s clearly not happening, it’s once more unto the breach.

And you think that the president proposing a Nationwide shelter in place would have prevented panic?
What kind of dream universe does that exist in?!

So I guess this was a bad weekend for my Jag to break? I'll likely need to take it to a shop.

They are saying April 7? This is gonna suck big time. I just canceled a site visit I though an employee from Walnut Creek could do for me. My thought that for every person testing positive there are probably 20 out there that have it.

We haven’t been completely locked down, but the whole state of Louisiana will be under the following restrictions until April 14th :
Gatherings are limited to no more than 50 people.
Casinos and bars will be closed.
Restaurants will be closed to patrons eating on site. Take-out, drive-through and delivery orders are allowed.
Movie theaters will be closed.

He could’ve pressured and vocally supported places with cases popping up to do so without imposing a blanket ruling on the whole country.
Also would’ve helped if he didn’t sit around going “we have 15 cases, soon it will be zero!” and twiddling his thumbs for a week. He still continues to claim that we have an excellent handle on this. We do not.

I wish London Breed would have done that, not Trump. I don’t want him to do anything!!!

Okay, that makes sense. Job security I guess would be getting in on doing those. But I don’t know what the requirements would be for a diagnostic test at this point.

Yep. And we are all scrambling to comply. The agency I work for is an “Essential Service” (homeless services) so were are exempt, but we are still going to get as many of our staff as we can to work from home. As I hold an “essential posi tion” (HR) I still get to come to the office....

No! Shops are specifically allowed to stay open, so that’s...good? I don’t know how long we’ll be able to last or get parts, we’re getting all kinds of messages from suppliers.

I wish they weren’t putting such arbitrary deadlines in place. April 14th might not be long enough, and, conversely, there’s at least a slim chance that it might also turn out to be longer than necessary. Why not start with 2 weeks and then assess whether a further extension is warranted?
![]() 03/16/2020 at 19:54 |

Almost assuredly

For people who are infected, two weeks is enough time for 99% of them to show symptoms. If an infected person passes it on to another, the additional two weeks should capture those secondary infections and the 1% who don’t develop symptoms until after 14 days.
By that reasoning, 4 weeks is a minimum.

And the president of the United States slowed us down by weeks at the start of this. But he’s come around now and we love him even more because he came around. An old conservative guy I communicate with in Tennessee pronounced to me only yesterday that he was waiting to see whether it was Joe or Bernie who gets spit-roasted on President Trump’s barbecue in November. I hope they’re all still alive come November.

Depends who’s asking Definitely would have involved crossing over to the East Bay and heading north past Marin. I’m not a big fan of the Peninsula roads. They’re always far too crowded.

It’s going to be a reality for a significant chunk of the country by Thursday. Even if it’s not officially in place in a given area best to act as if it is.

It’ll be interesting to see how the more freedom-y parts of the country react to such edicts. I expect a lot of compliance in western WA, along with the Bay area, etc.
The ‘law and order’ people will show again they only care about a couple laws.
